He also reviewed the evolution of material specifications, including PTI M10.2 and ACI 423.7.<br /><br />The talk covered common structural framing options in parking garages, such as one-way beam-and-slab systems, wide shallow beams, slab bands, and two-way flat plate systems. Crystal explained how these approaches improved span lengths, efficiency, parking layout, and construction economy.<br /><br />A major theme was durability design. He highlighted ACI 362 resources, especially the guide for durable parking structures, which addresses climate exposure zones, concrete strength, drainage, cover, and crack control. He also discussed volume-change effects, restraint-to-shortening design, and the importance of maintenance guidance.<br /><br />Finally, Crystal stressed PTI certification’s role in quality assurance, noting the importance of certified plants, certified personnel, and proper construction practices.
